#31: Improving Trauma Care and Designing Trauma Systems with Dr. William Long

Dr. William B. Long specializes in trauma surgery. He is the father of Oregon’s state-wide system of trauma and the ACS/COT-designated level 1 Trauma Center at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, in Portland, Oregon, where he serveduntil recently as Trauma Medical Director for nearly 35 years. Trained in general and cardiovascular surgery at the University of Maryland and the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh, Dr. Long revolutionized trauma care on the west coast of the United States by establishing an infrastructure that would support technically advanced ways of restoring function. He has also pioneered numerous surgical innovations.
